My 2M-USD teammate's edge is three things — objectivity, burnout immunity, universal respect. On my team there's an engineer earning 2M+ USD a year — younger than me, and the entire team respects him. Six years of working alongside him, three things stand out. **One**: **absolute objectivity.** Working without letting emotion drive the call is *hard.* He makes the most accurate, most detached judgment exactly when the situation is hardest. **Two**: **no burnout.** Anyone at Meta who claims they don't burn out is lying — I get one every six months. He works the hardest schedule on the team and almost never breaks. His mental hygiene is that disciplined. **Three**: **universal reputation.** Even the best people usually have at least one person at the office who finds them annoying. He has *no one.* Every word and action is deliberate. Not once does he show off.
