To go beyond senior, you must prove value no other senior engineer can provide. The test is hearing "without this person, the project would not have launched." About a year after becoming senior, Alex had grown the level 3–4 juniors into seniors, leaving a 30–40 person project with a dozen-plus seniors. The feedback he got was: what value will you add over the other seniors? Creating irreplaceable value in frontend, collaboration and project execution led to the next promotion.
